On Monday all of the Reception children had an amazing time at the Centre for Life at Newcastle. The children had fun investigating, participating in and discovering a range of different activities. The children especially loved the dinosaurs!

So, we are now into week five of our first term back at school and in Reception we have been having a ball! Everyone is now settled and the fun has really begun. This week we took our phonics outside where me made lots of noise and wrote our graphemes, in chalk, on the floor. We have been learning all about our 5 senses. Today we took part in a smelling and tasting challenge to see if we could name the different smells and tastes. Everyone tried everything...some things were tastier than others! At the end of the day, the children decided that their favourite taste was the chocolate and their favourite smell was the mint leaves.
We had a wonderful day celebrating Nursery Graduation Day, yesterday. The children looked fantastic and were a credit to our school. They truly deserved our HUGE treat cake! Thank you all for coming along to support us. Good luck to you all, Nursery, in your new class or school! There has been in real buzz in Reception today. In their child initiated play, the children decided that they were going to work together to plan, organise and then participate in our first class wedding! Evan and Florence decided that they wanted to get married today so they asked all of their friends to help them get things sorted. Charlotte made the flowers, Tilly was the 'best woman', Lily sorted out the seating plan, Eve and Persia were the bridesmaids and the rest of the children attended as guests. The boys made themselves ties to wear and the girls had a variety of flower clips that they also made. We had a lovely time celebrating in the afternoon!
Remember, we asked for donations of bottle lids? Here is the final result...we didn't get as many as we had hoped so we made an additional pom pom flower! I am sure you will agree they look fantastic! We have had so much fun today celebrating Children's Art Day. In Reception we have been inspired by shapes and patterns in art. We looked at work from Andy Warhol, Kandinsky and Jackson Pollock, using their wonderful work to create our very own versions. Please take a look at our work and let us know what you think!
Nursery have been so amazing that they filled their fuzzy jar this week....their request was for a pyjama party with party food! We had a fabulous time dancing and partying the morning away. A BIG thank you to parents for your donations. What an exciting week...On Monday, we discovered fruit and vegetables tied up around the classroom....we spent some time thinking about who the culprit could be! On Tuesday, we discovered a trail of peas and the Evil Pea! He left us a book "Supertato" (about a superhero potato who is excellent at capturing evil peas!) . The Evil Pea challenged us to catch him...so we did and trapped him in a prison... On Wednesday, he escaped! Supertato arrived and pleaded for our help: we have spent the rest of the week making Wanted posters and creating our own Supertato characters to help catch the Evil Pea once and for all! Will we ever catch him? Will he ever stop being evil?! Will Supertato save the day?! Today, we celebrated the birthday of Queen Elizabeth ll. We were Kings and Queens for the day; making crowns and decorating them with jewels and sequins. We made birthday cards for the Queen and had scones for snack! This week in Reception, we welcomed two new members to our class. The children have managed to fill their marble jar by working together to be amazing. As a reward for this, we now have two fish as our class pet. The children are yet to name the fish. We are going to have a vote to decide upon their names. We will let you know what we decide.
