Just to clear up any confusion, Year 3 swimming will continue to be on Tuesdays until the end of term. So don't forget those swimming kits tomorrow!
Year 3's normal PE time in now a Wednesday morning where we will be learning athletics skills, however this week we have had an early PE lesson this afternoon so we won't be having Wednesday PE this week. This week in year 3 we have been learning all about healthy eating. We have read a story all about sharing a healthy chicken soup and for our homework we are writing down our favourite healthy family recipes to share with out friends. We were also lucky enough to have a special visitor who came into class to talk to us about eating right and ensuring we have the correct amount of food from each food group. We enjoyed working as a class to divide the food into the correct groups and discussing the benefits of each food group.
On Rainbow Day in Year 3 we enjoyed reading the story Prince Henry. This story focused on the theme LOVE IS ALWAYS EQUAL. As a class we retold the story through puppets and we hope you enjoy watching our story complete with a fire breathing dragon and a unicorn!! As part of out Rainbow Day tomorrow Year 3 will be focusing on the book Prince Henry. As we are looking at a book involving Kings, Queens, Princes and Princesses, if they have them the children are welcome to wear a crown or tiara with their rainbow clothing. If not, no need to worry! We will be getting crafty with crowns during the day!
This week, Year 3 got stuck into our new topic all about the Romans! We now know why the Romans invaded Britain and lots about the Roman Army! We went outside and practiced marching in the different formations the Roman Army used, we learnt all about the Turtle, Pigs head and Square formations. Take a look below to see our marching pictures. On Friday, Year 3 children brought home a letter all about our upcoming trip to the Roman Army Museum and Vindolanda. We will be going on Monday the 8th of May. Please ensure your child brings in their permission slip back to school next week. HOMEWORKWe have now begun our new approach to homework and children have taken home a letter, a leaflet, a new homework book and a new reading record book. If you have any questions regarding these please do not hesitate to call, or come into school and ask.
This fortnight, Year 3 are challenged to write an explanation and chose to either find out about Roman buildings or create a times table maths game. Year 3 have been working so hard recently, we have been enjoying doing some INCREDIBLE writing all about of favourite authors and about our class novel James and The Giant Peach. We have been learning about inverse calculations, estimates and practicing our times tables in maths. Year 3 also now have a brilliant understanding of Food and Farming as we've all been trying so hard in topic!
Of course, after all this hard work and outstanding behaviour, it wasn't hard for year 3 to earn a MARBLE JAR PARTY! On Friday we had a BRILLIANT afternoon of marble jar treats, we brought in our pj's, blankets, cushions and teddies, we put on the film James and The Giant Peach, and we filled our tummies with hot dogs and strawberry milkshake! It was FANTASTIC! We've already started collecting marbles towards our next marble jar party, but we know theres lots of hard work to be done first! This morning we had an incredible theatre company visit our school to perform the play Just Joshing which taught us all about bullying. Since then in class we have written our own anti-bullying stories and have been getting crafty! We have created our own bothersome bugs. Inside we reveal what bugs us and on a wing we have identified how we can BEE the the solution to a bothersome bug problem.
We were very excited to show off our brilliant bugs. |
