One Sunday morning I got up and had some cornflakes and orange juice. Then I played the drums and woke the whole house! I got dressed. It was so exciting to be going to the zoo that I danced. When I got there with my mam and dad, first we saw the lion. After that we saw the elephants and we got really wet. I saw a blue, fluffy parrot. It was fun when I got back. I had some chicken nuggets and chips with beans. It was yummy. I had a great time at the zoo, it was fun.

It was the morning of the circus opening night. As the Ring Master ate his Cornflakes he thought about what a wonderful night it would be. The crowd made their way into the tent and everyone found a seat. Tightrope walkers, trapeze artists, jugglers and clowns performed in the show. There was a drum roll, it was time for the star attraction the Amazing Lion. He was led by the Lion Tamer who lit the ring of fire. The lion took position, he ran and leapt through the flames. The lion danced as the crowd cheered, it was so exciting!
It was Saturday morning and the sun was shining very brightly, so Rosie ,her mum and dad decided to have a trip to the zoo. They were also taking her dog called Cornflakes along with them. Cornflakes was waiting patiently beside the door wagging his tail because he was so excited. They jumped into the car and drove to the zoo. Rosie loved the monkeys, elephants and the lion, who roared very loudly. At the centre of the zoo there was a drum banging and everybody danced happily, all having a lovely day with the animals at the zoo.
This week the prompt is five words. These must ALL be in your writing but can be in any order. Put them in bold, italics or underline them so that they stand out. The words are:
… Drum … Cornflake … Exciting … Lion … Danced … Have a good think before you start writing and try to be really creative in your story. Aim to create a context - who? What? Where? When? Why? How? Remember to include: powerful vocabulary choices; a range of openers; connectives and punctuation for effect. When you have written it, ‘mumble’ read it to yourself to check that it makes sense! Make sure it is interesting and exciting too. Try to avoid repetition. Let your imagination run wild!!! Geoffrey and Bob were rival pirates, on exploration to a desert island to find golden treasure. There were challenges to complete to compete for the prize. Each were given a map and started on opposite sides of the island. Bob's first challenge was climbing across a ravine with no harness! Geoffrey's involved swinging from vine to vine, crocodiles snapping at his feet! After numerous challenges they met at the final task that involved each finding a shovel and racing to the top of the hill to where X marks the spot. First pirate to reach the booty would be declared the winner! Who won?
One day two brothers called Jack and Louis were going to the beach to search for sea shells. So off they went to sunny South Shields. They weren't going on any roller coaster rides when they got there, they were only looking for interesting and unusual shells but then Jack came across an old map. He shouted to Louis to come and see. He said “Let's follow it!" Louis said “Yes.” So off they went and 5 minutes later they came across a mystery box. Jack’s mum said it was treasure, so Louis screamed "X MARKS THE SPOT!" Soon they were rich and famous!
On a sunny Sunday morning my best friend gave me a treasure map and said X marks the spot, he asked if I would help him find the treasure. I said I will do it and find the treasure with you. So we set off and went passed the big trees and further on we passed a small stream, the map said we were close to the treasure. The map showed if we went up the hill we would find the treasure under a bush, so we set off, but to our surprise there was no bush just a house built on the X.
One day, me and my friend Emma were sorting out the loft when we came across an old dusty box. We opened the lid with excitement. Inside the box was an old map of Beamish Woods. On closer inspection we realised it must be a treasure map. We grabbed our coats and set off on our adventure. Once we arrived at Beamish Woods we followed the trail though the deep dense woods. After a couple of hours we arrived at a beautiful waterfall, we checked the map and realised we had arrived at our destination. Written on the map was X marks the spot.
One lovely sunny day two brothers called Ant and Dec were going to the beach, they set off with an enormous picnic bag full of yummy treats. When they had reached the beach they jumped into the sea and unexpectedly saw a green bottle with a treasure map inside. On the map was a marking saying x marks the spot. They climbed out of the sea and followed the map which took them right to the dark creepy rocks. They quickly found the spot and started digging. To their surprise they stumbled across a chest full of treasure which made them very, very rich.
