We have had lots of fun this week retelling and innovating the story using story maps.
Welcome back everyone for the start of the new school year. My name is Mrs Bolton and I am the new Yr1 teacher. I will be working in Year 1 with Mrs Craig.Thank you to everyone who has made me feel very welcome at Shield Row Primary school .Myself and Mrs Craig are both very excited for the year ahead.
I am pleased to say that the children have settled in very well and are already working very hard. This half term our topic is 'Me, Myself and I'. We will be looking at ourselves and each other during our topic time, looking at parts of the body (inside and out) as well as portraits and self-portraits by a range of different artists. We will become artists ourselves creating our very own masterpieces! In Literacy our current focus book is 'The Mixed-Up Chameleon' by Eric Carle. He also wrote the books 'The Bad-Tempered Ladybird' and 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'.We will be using talk for writing to help us become familiar with the story, creating story maps and being able to retell the story using expression in our voices and big actions. If you would like to become familiar with the story yourself or with your child, you can find the story by following this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ch1277quZo In Numeracy we will be doing a lot of work with numbers. We will be learning to use a number line to help us find answers to different number sentences. We will also be looking at 100 squares as well as developing our counting skills, counting in steps of 1 from any number, forwards and backwards. I hope that you enjoy our blog over the coming year. Please feel free to leave a comment and support the children in any way you can thank you. |
