enrichment topic-ww1 & remembrance day
| Welcome back. We hope you enjoyed the half-term break! Straight away we have begun our Enrichment topic which is The First World War and Remembrance Day. The children are learning all about life in the trenches and are very interested in all aspects of the life of a soldier 100 years ago. On Wednesday we were visited by a soldier who served in France in 1914 (acting obviously). He showed the children how to march, salute and exercise. He told some stories about what a soldier would eat and what his daily routine would have been. In Literacy we are learning to write a recount using specific language such as first, next , then, finally etc. The whole school visited Beamish where we learnt how people lived and worked all those years ago. We also went shopping with old pennies to buy items to send to a soldier who was sent to the front line in France. It was great fun and we learnt a lot. We will be writing a recount of our day out. During Numeracy we are learning how to order events into chronological order I.e. A day in the life of a soldier and our own daily routines. Thank you to those of you who worked at home with your children to discover facts about WW1. Myself and Mrs Craig have been bowled over with the lovely things you found out and sent in to share with the class. We hope you enjoy the slideshow! |
