This week we have been exploring gloop (cornflour and water). Outside, we made a dinosoaur swamp by mixing the cornflour with some food colouring and mud. We had great fun exploring the texture of it and building stories around the toys.

THE DOT!This week the children have enjoyed listening to a story called 'The Dot'. It is a story all about a little girl who thinks that she can't draw. Then she draws a dot and she realises that she is actually an artist! **If you would like to listen to the story, a version of the story can be found on youtube. I then asked the children a simple question: Just look at what they created indoors and outdoors... WHAT DO YOU THINK?
What a busy few weeks...It has been a very busy time in Reception over the last two weeks. We have not stopped being 'Busy Bees' and we have been having so much fun! First, when we were moving our cardboard boxes around, we found a little visitor...a slippery, slimy slug! The children were incredibly interested in the patterns on its back and the trails it was leaving behind. The children worked together to put the slug into the magnifier to take a closer look. Later in the week we were very distracted by the sound of the rain on the roof of our classroom. We were trying to think of words to describe the rain. To help us, we lay down on the floor, closed our eyes and listened carefully to the sound of the rain hitting the roof.
Next we went outside to stand in the rain, thinking about what we could hear and feel. The children then decided that they wanted to make their own instruments that sounded like rain. They used beads and rice to create the rain sound effect and then decorated their instruments to make them look amazing! A huge welcome to Nursery! The children have settled well into Nursery life and are "finding their feet" with a new environment and a class full of new friends! We are excited to see your children grow and develop over the next year! Mrs Gascoigne and Miss Macari It was lovely to welcome the children back to school today. They looked so grown up in their new uniform and they were very proud to now by in Reception.
We have had a lovely, calm and very busy morning. All of the children were busy bees, investigating all of the learning areas as well as taking advantage of the lovely weather and being busy bees outside too! We look forward to all of the fun and fabulous times ahead. Mrs Bolton and Mrs Robson |
