The children check their plants on a daily basis. Last week, one of the children noticed that something amazing had happened and it was ready to pull out. Taking tips from one of our previous stories, 'The Enormous Turnip', we pulled and pulled until finally, out popped an enormous radish!
Last half term, the Reception children were very busy preparing, planting and looking after our growing box. The children planted radish, cress, beans and carrots. They even made their own scarecrow to keep the birds away! The children check their plants on a daily basis. Last week, one of the children noticed that something amazing had happened and it was ready to pull out. Taking tips from one of our previous stories, 'The Enormous Turnip', we pulled and pulled until finally, out popped an enormous radish! The children had a lot of fun investigating the radish. They were very excited about what they had grown. The children asked if they could taste the radish... The responses from the children were very mixed...some children loved it and others used the word 'disgusting'. However, I was very proud because everyone had a try. We can't wait to see what grows next :-)

This morning we had a visit from our local Police Community Officers: John and David. They spent some time in Nursery and Reception talking about their jobs and how they keep us safe. They also helped us to make some beautiful tree decorations (Nursery will bring these home on Monday as they were too sticky!)
We even had a ride in the police van! NURSERYHere we are squiggling and wiggling! Apologies for the poor sound quality!
We have had an amazing week this week in Reception, topped off with a very fun Friday where we had our very first 'Marble Jar Party!'. What have we been up to this week? We have been working on our maths skills, counting different amounts, recognising numerals and ordering numbers. We have also had so much fun with phonics, learning new phonemes and then trying to use what we have learnt in our own work. The children have been talking about the weather this week and have noticed that it has been super windy! This has made our work outdoors very interesting indeed. Some children were so inspired by the wind that they decided to make their own kites to see how high they would fly!
SQUIGGLEYou may have heard your child talk about Squiggle! "Squiggle while you Wiggle" is a programme used to help your children begin to make marks and write! We do these movements on a large scale first, as it is important that we can co-ordinate our body, hand and arm movements before we attempt to write. It is great fun and we love dancing to different songs each day. This week after our Squiggle warm up, we practised our "up and down" and "side to side" movements whilst washing the windows! ELMER BISCUITSThis week, we made Elmer biscuits! (We have been reading the story of "Elmer" the elephant in class).
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to our SNACK FUND so far, as it helps us make these activities possible. The children gain so much from them! :) |
