It was Halloween. My family and friends organised a spooky and gruesome party. We decorated the house, got all the party games set up, including apple bobbing and the best dressed competition. Best of all was the blindfolded box game. Here, you have to put your hand in the box and guess what's inside. It was so funny to see one of my friends blindfolded. My mum was going to lift the box open. I was the second to go. So, as she lifted the lid, my friends felt isolated and terrified. "Aagghh!" What was going to happen next ....?

This video has been saved in a downloadable format. We had a fantastic and memorable afternoon. The children are definitely SUPER STARS! Thank you to everyone involved, especially Mr Walton for being chief photographer and Year 5 parents for being so accommodating and supportive at such short notice.
The challenge this week is looking for you to use your senses. What will you see, hear, taste, smell or touch? The prompt is:
… so as she lifted the lid… Make sure you only write using this prompt. Please email you entries to Mrs Henderson by Friday 29th May. Enjoy your holiday! One day there was a little girl who was called Lucy and she was going to the park. It was a beautiful, sunny day but the ferocious wind was blowing like a hurricane! So, they decided not to go to the park and to stay at their grandma’s house for the night instead. After that their mum drove them to their gran’s house. When they arrived the table had been set for tea. They were having fish and chips with mushy peas. It was scrumptious. Once they had tidied up, they played on their computer before going straight to bed.
I was going on my holidays to Cornwall in my touring caravan. When we set off I was so excited, but the ferocious wind was terrible. I was terrified. We were travelling down on the A1. It was so windy that we had to stop at the services for the night. I went in with my mam and dad to book a place for the night. Then we had tea at Burger King. I had burger and chips, yummy. We went back to the caravan to sleep; it was shaking and moving so much. We hoped the wind disappeared soon.
One stormy, wintry night a man named Douglas took his white furry coated Westie for a walk around the village of Pontefract. He walked through woodlands, marshy ground and the High Street which contained shops from Store 21 to Sports Direct BUT THE FEROCIOUS WIND BLEW Douglas and his cute little Westie to Candy World. Elves and Fairies guarded this secretive world full of candy. Douglas lllooovvveed candy!! He ate as much as he could. Then suddenly, he woke to the sound of a torrential storm. Douglas was back at home, it had all just been a candy filled dream!
This afternoon, Year 5 walked down to Beamish Museum to meet Helen from GMTV, in order to film a feature on children's play, which will be broadcast in the morning! The children had fun playing traditional games and were interviewed about the different types of games they enjoy playing. The feature is part of Save the Children's 'Den Building Week' which will be launched tomorrow. Research has suggested that fewer children today play outdoors and that many no longer know how to play because they are becoming more dependent on technology. However, Year 5 have certainly proved this to be a myth! Tune in between 6am and 7am to see the report.
It was a wonderful sunny day but the ferocious wind was spoiling the beautiful heat. Shield Row School were sent out for play, and at that moment Bob’s hat flew away. Instantly, he ran after it however it was still swirling away, he had it in his fingertips but it slipped once again. It flew north up to the green grassy field where eventually it got caught on the silver fence. He sprinted as quick as he could (to make sure he grabbed it before it blew away again). “Yes I’ve got it!” Break finished and Bob had his hat.
One day it was sunny but the ferocious wind was blowing like a whirlwind. Although the sun was shining it felt ice cold so the two beautiful girls called Anna and Isabella decided to stay indoors and played on their mobile phones. As they were playing Subway Suffers, suddenly the wind calmed down so they went outside and played on their huge trampoline for an hour.
Unexpectedly, their mum shouted them in for tea. To their surprise was a table full of spaghetti bolognaise and freshly baked bread. It tasted delicious and they finished it all in record breaking time! This week we are thinking about the weather. It has been cold and blustery here even though it has been sunny. The prompt this week is:
…but the ferocious wind … Make sure that you have used the best vocabulary you can think of. Please email you work to Mrs Henderson by Friday 22nd May. |
