I spent a fantastic morning in Early Years contructing buildings with the children. This was an example of their superb construction skills. I helped Logan and Dillon build the Empire State Building. Niall is very impressed and it's was almost twice the size of him.

Year 6 demonstrated their acting, script writing and film production skills in this moving video to show how bullying can affect pupils and how we support our children in school. Kanice's performance was exceptional throughout. I am sure she is destined for a future on the stage or the big screen. Our 'Anti-Bullying Champions' do a wonderful job in school - with the help of Tiny the Turtle. We are a listening school and everyone works hard to ensure that their is no place for bullying at Shield Row.
Well done Year 6 - Steven Spielberg would be proud!! Well done to our stars of the week. It is always fantastic to hear how well the children have been during our Friday Achievement Assembly. To raise money for Children in Need, the children came to school dressed in their pyjamas. The School Council arraged a bun sale, with cakes donated by parents. We raised over £280!! Well done everyone.
We held two minutes silence with the children in the school hall today at 11.00am for Remembrance Day. The children were unbelievable - absolutely silent and incredibly respectful.
Friends of Shield Row
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Friends of Shield Row School for organising the Halloween disco at East Stanley Club before the holidays. We had an excellent night, with some amazing and ghoulish costumes. We raised just under £300 for the children. Thank you to everyone who attended. We launched our work on trains with a whole school assembly. We looked at the history of trains and transport, and how trains have featured in films. Our favourites were the scenes from Mission Impossible and Back to the Future III. Maybe we will be able to buy tickets for flying, time travelling trains in the future. We finished with a quote from Doc Brown - something we should all keep in our minds.
Trains
On Monday we began our whole school topic about trains. By the end of the week, all classes from Reception to Year 6 will have spent the day at the National Railway Museum in Shildon. The children will have had the opportunity to learn about the history of railways and trains, see trains from different ages, explore the cab of a real steam train, complete craft and art activities and take part in a train treasure hunt. Each class is also reading a fiction book linked to trains, to base their writing on. Nursery The Train Ride Reception Ghost Train Year 1 The Magic Train Ride Year 2 Oi, Get Off My Train Year 3 Locomotive Year 4 Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone Year 5 The Railway Children Year 6 Ruckus – A Great Train Robbery I am sure this will be a fantastic two weeks. It has really captured the children’s imagination and I have no doubt they will produce some excellent work which will be displayed throughout school. We will be inviting parents to see the children’s fabulous work very soon. |
