It was Friday and the sun was shining. What better way to spend a hot afternoon than building an outdoor PE container. The structure had been delivered a few days ago and we were ready. I was joined by Mr Walton and Mr Lockey. We struggled for a while and we were definitely missing something - or someone... And then Mrs Bambridge arrived - the brains behind the operation. It may have taken two hours and one sliced finger but eventually the container was built. It is magnificent!!!
Everyone in school is delighted with our amazing story telling chair which will be the centre piece of our new library. Our School Council worked with Naomi from 'Textiles by Gnomes'. Naomi talked to the children about what they thought the chair should include and they drew sketches of their favourite characters from books. She took away the children's work and developed their ideas. However, nothing could prepare us for how fantastic the finished chair looked. Naomi transformed the designs into a unique piece of furniture that will sit proudly in our library. Staff and children will enjoy sitting on it, sharing their favourite books and novels with everyone. Thank you Naomi. What a great start to our Brazilian enrichment theme. On Monday we 'kicked off' the work with a 'Summer Samba Spectacular' day. The children took part in Samba drumming, Samba dancing and Brazilian graffiti art. The hall has been decorated with a giant World Cup trophy, a statue of Christ the Redeemer and 32 huge flags for each of the qualifying countries. The children produced some amazing art work with Leon, created a Rio carnival dance with Serena and played Samba instruments with Michael. The school was bouncing to a South American beat. Bringing Learning Alive at its finest! What an amazing day I have had with the Year 6 children at Howtown. After a 5.00am start I made it to the centre just in time for a full English breakfast. A good meal for the day ahead. We spent the morning rock climbing on a crag with the most amazing views of Ullswater. The children were brilliant - encouraging each other all of the time. Everyone had a go and faced their challenges head on. Gorge walking cooled us down in the afternoon. We climbed waterfalls and waded through pools. Everyone had fun splashing in the water. Once again, the children's teamwork was awesome. Our Year 6s have been a real credit to the school and it has been a privilege to spend the day with them! Once again, it was great to hear about the wonderful things the children have been doing in school. Whether it is work that has been completed to a high standard or kind thoughts and actions, it all goes to show what amazing pupils we have at Shield Row. Well done everyone. Welcome back to the final part of the summer term. I hope everyone had a great week off!! At the end of the half term John Young and Edna Hunter from the Rotary Club came to school to present the young writer prizes to our Year 5 and 6 children Congratulations to all the children who took part, particularly Benjamin. His winning piece of writing was superb and he showed the impact that special people can have on our lives. Well done Benjamin. |
