We ventured out into the grounds, and a few moments of deliberation, it was decided that the wood would be the best habitat to re-home 'Bob' (as he had affectionately been named)! A real cross curricular adventure to match with our recent Classifying Organisms science topic. After wishing him good luck (we knew he had to be a boy), he was set free into the woods.
We couldn't leave it there - a quick 'Google' led us to the information that he was probably a leopard slug or great grey slug (Limax maximus) and wasn't a garden pest, which brought a great sigh of relief to the gardening club members!
A few of the class were saddened that Bob couldn't remain as a pet, but ultimately knew that we had sensibly and nobly rescued him!
