Many people wonder why the old stone sofa is in the park. Well it isn't quite stone it was a real sofa. Left in the rain and snow it has hardened like stone. It is there in memory of Dr Wilson, who saved many lives. But one night a spark came from the fire, landed on the carpet, caught alight and burnt the house down. Wilson was a sleep on that very sofa and died! The house was un-stable so it was knocked down. The locals insisted to leave the sofa where he died in the exact place in his memory!
This week we will be looking at Measurements in Maths. Here are some useful links to support you: http://resources.woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk/maths/measures/capacity.html#ReadingScales http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/teachers/ks2_activities/maths/measures.shtml Rainforest Maths
If you fancy doing a little bit of extra maths at home, here are some tricky rainforest themed questions for you. Do not be fooled by the large numbers that you are working with, as long as you can multiply and divide by 10 and 100 you should be able to have a good go at these. Answers as comments please! 1a) The surface area of the Earth is 510,072,000km². In 1950, approximately 15% of the Earth’s surface was covered by rainforests. How many km² is this? 1b) Now, rainforests only cover 6% of the Earth’s surface. How many km² of rainforest have been lost? 2) Every day, as a result of the destruction of the rainforests, 137 plants, animals and insect species are lost. If we managed to save 10% of these species, how many would we save a year? 3) Every second, one and a half acres of rainforest are destroyed. If we could save just 30% of these rainforests, how many acres would we save every hour? James tiredly woke up after his lie in. He suddenly remembered he was going rock climbing, him and his sisters loved to climb. He dawdled down the stairs and ate his bacon sandwich for breakfast. As James and his sisters were on their way they saw a Hyena sleeping. Finally they arrived at the colossal grey dome which was the climbing centre; James couldn’t wait to climb. Next they ate their dinner at the climbing cafe, and then headed off to home. James and his sisters went climbing and were tucked up in bed after a exhausting but fun day.
As I was eating my sandwich I saw a gray hyena climbing a hill, he looked miserable then I saw a wolf chasing after him. I leaped on to my feet and pulled out a shotgun, then I ran after them. I shouted stop but they wouldn't! So I ran past them and hid behind a rock, then I loaded my gun and popped out the all you could here for a mile was BOOOOOOM! After that day he and the hyena became the best of friends ( we became the epic 2 ). All the city loved us and we lived happily ever after!
It was a scorching summer’s day in Africa and the mood around the village had never been so miserable. Me and my family decided to take a stroll to the rocky, deserted grounds ahead. Whilst tucking in to my delicious sandwich, my eyes were drawn to a large, grey hyena trying its hardest to climb that one tree lying on the solid sand below my feet. As our journey continued our tiny village began to look smaller and smaller until it had eventually disappeared over the horizon, over two hours had gone by without water would be get back in time?
Once upon a time a boy called Grey was feeling miserable because he attempted to climb The Hyena Mountain but he stumbled and hit the ground too hard and broke his arm. His friend Jonas heard about the accident and decided to take him to a brand new sandwich shop down the road. Jonas tried to make Grey laugh in the sandwich shop but it didn't work. Grey never laughed and never wanted to climb a mountain ever again.
One miserable day Mathew had to go to school. When the class was working, strangely a Hyena was next to Matthew. He ran out the classroom and had to climb the mountain ahead of him. Then grey clouds formed around him. After this Matthew went home and had a bacon sandwich with his sister, mam and dad, he loved it. Next he called on James and James had a sleep over at Matthews house. Matthew said “look there’s Bruno mars I love Bruno Mars, he's is a great singer”
“He's good” said James. Then they went home (tea time). Today is the day I tell you about how I became a ninja. One sunny morning I was eating a wonderful sandwich (outside was grey, damp and miserable.) Suddenly a man broke through my window and snatched me up. I had been kidnapped. Later they took my mask off and said you will be a ninja. We are called the Hyena club. We climb buildings, protect people and make sure our town is safe. Are you up for the job? I said yes. So they trained me up to be a ninja. Now I am the boss of the team
