All of Year 6 visited Beamish Museum today. They began by investigating the death of James White, a 12 year old boy who died whilst mining. They had to work in their group and interview friends, neighbours and mining colleagues to establish how and why he died. The children were amazing at listening carefully to the people they interviewed and developing opinions on his fate.
After the obligatory visit to the sweet shop, we ate our lunch and began the afternoon as a Victorian pupil in the school room. The children were taught how to use a dipping pen; practised the nine times table and took part in a PT lesson.
The afternoon ended with time at the 'Frost Fayre' where the children had the opportunity to show off their ice-skating skills, ride on the 'Steam Gallopers' and end the day with a hot chocolate. The rain managed to hold off until they began walking back to the town to catch the bus.
