To celebrate our whole school Royal Day, Year 6 decided to put our compass skills to the test! Some of us found using a pair of compasses really tricky ( maybe even harder than the leap of faith on Tuesday!) Once we drew our cakes, we had to measure the candle to find the radius, then calculate the diameter, and use this to find out the circumference. It was a huge challenge but we used our new-found perseverance skills to help us succeed!

Yet another fun-packed day. The 3g swing was amazing and some of us pushed ourselves way beyond our comfort zone. We also had a surprise birtbday cake for Adam's birthday before we left. ''Today started bright and early (actually - just bright as our breakfast slot was 8:50 and we had a bit of a late night!) and has been fun-filled ever since. After a good hot breakfast of bacon, spaghetti hoops and hash browns, we were ready for anything. Anything being 'The nightline', 'Den building', 'Aeroball', lunch (jacket potato with cheese/beans), 'Leap of faith', Jacob's Ladder' and 'Quadbiking' - all before our evening meal. We have learnt so much throughout the day and, especially, how team work is the key to everything! Now it's time for the disco! Everyone had an an amazing first day on our residential. We tried to conquer our fears of heights during the obstacle course and during indoor climbing! The camp fire was a really fun way to end the day.
We are really enjoying creating 'Curves of Pursuit' using regular polygons, a ruler and straight lines. It was amazing seeing curves appear when we drew straight lines. Y6 have enjoyed using smarties to help them find ratio and proportions. Because they worked so hard, Connor thought they should be able to eat them at the end! A few others had less successful persuasive reasons: they'll melt or we've recorded the data so don't need them anymore!
Everyone enjoyed creating Keith Haring-inspired Pop Art paintings of the people in the 'Love Has No Labels' film.
Friday morning was spent creating Tangerine Dream Fruity Cocktails! We had to use the given ratio to ensure they tasted just right. Each juice was carefully measured out and the final 'mocktail' was measured to ensure it had the calculated expected capacity. The children then had to work out the amounts for a 'Taster' for the staff - this was tricky as one of the juices was 6.5ml! They happily shared these with the staff in school - whilst explaining how they created them and the maths they needed to use.
.What an amazing performance from the class today. They have spent every Friday afternoon learning to play the Samba instruments with Mr Stephenson from Tanfield School. Today was finally the day when they had a chance to shine! Their performance was so polished and they showed such confidence when playing the samba beats and singing with Mr Stephenson and acapella! A huge well done. You made us very proud. Year 6 had such a treat when they spent time working with the youngest children in Nursery. They were so helpful when supporting the children whilst they designed their Easter Eggs. A huge well done! |
