It's been a great first three days back in school. The children have been fantastic and very well behaved. Everyone has settled straight back into the routines. Achievement assembly was extremely positive - individual children, classes and the entire school (including the staff) received rewards for work, kindness and behaviour. Jimi shared with us his definition of aspirations - 'making yourself even better!' That's our aim for the year. Lucy has left us to move on to St Bedes, so we had a new musician at the piano. Katie gave a fantastic rendition of happy birthday to the 15 or so children who had their birthdays during the summer break.

I would like to welcome everyone back for the start of the new school year and I hope you all had a fantastic holiday. The children have been superb over the last two days and they look so smart in their uniforms. We look forward to working with you this year.
This year we will be working with the children on their 'Dreams and Aspirations' for the future. In our assembly this morning we talked about what the world would be like without dreams, inspirational athletes from the Olympic Games and how we wanted to be behave towards each other and to 'Pay Kindness Forward' Click on the link below to see the video we watched from the Rio Olympics. http://bbc.in/2ccMhD2 We also listened to words of wisdom from Kid President. He is an inspirational boy, who has been viewed on YouTube over 25 million times. His videos are uplifting and thought provoking - and he is only 12 years old. Listen to what he has to say about 'Dreams.' Here are the slides from our assembly this morning. The photo of the London bus is from a real life event, where a unicyclist became trapped under the front wheels. Over 100 people helped to lift the bus, whilst two brave passers-by crawled under to pull the man free. At the same time, many other people just stood and watched; some even used their phones to film the accident and take pictures of the cyclist. The children all agreed that they would help! We almost managed to get to the end of Key Stage 1 Sports Day. Sadly rain stopped play. The children were brilliant and ran their hearts out despite the weather. Thanks to all of the parents, family and friends who turned up to lend their support to the children. You helped to ensure their spirits weren't dampened. Thank you to everyone who has sent money to school for our WaterAid capaign. As a result of your generosity, we have raised over £430.00 pounds. This is enough money to provide two communities with wells and access to clean water, saving lives. The cost of water in the poorest countries of the world is frightening. Imagine if we had to spend 54% of our daily salary on water - it's impossible to imagine spending so much, when we just turn on a tap. Brilliant day in school!!
Not only was there a superb turn out from dads, grandads, uncles and other family members for pie and peas, but England beat Wales with last minute goal in their Euro 2016 group match. It was wonderful to see everyone together, enjoying the footy. Well done to our Stars of the Week. Great to hear the wonderful things you have achieved. Is this our new school uniform?
The 7-a-side team finished runners up at the first Tudhoe Learning Trust Trophy. After losing the first game to Dene House, the eventual winners, the team won the next four games and drew the last game. It was a great afternoon at Durham City's Football ground. The sun was shining and we even had the opportunity to meet Steve Harper, the Newcastle and Sunderland goalkeeper.
Well done to our Year 6 children. They have worked incredibly hard and we are all proud of the effort they have put in as they have worked towards their SATs. The children are a credit to our school. Enjoy Howtown!!!
