If you fancy doing a little bit of extra maths at home, here are some tricky rainforest themed questions for you.
Do not be fooled by the large numbers that you are working with, as long as you can multiply and divide by 10 and 100 you should be able to have a good go at these.

1a) The surface area of the Earth is 510,072,000km².
In 1950, approximately 15% of the Earth’s surface was covered by rainforests.
How many km² is this?
1b) Now, rainforests only cover 6% of the Earth’s surface. How many km² of rainforest have been lost?
2) Every day, as a result of the destruction of the rainforests, 137 plants, animals and insect species are lost. If we managed to save 10% of these species, how many would we save a year?
3) Every second, one and a half acres of rainforest are destroyed. If we could save just 30% of these rainforests, how many acres would we save every hour?
